Rice Mechanization Course: Basic and General Concepts

Rice is the hugely important food crop for the world’s population, especially in West and Central Asian regions. Rice is cultivated in 159.8 million ha in the world. During the last 16 years, there has been a remarkable increase in the production of rice. While the rice production has increased by over 1.24 times, the cultivation area has remained almost constant over this period. The rice productivity has increased from 3.89 t/ha to 4.64 t/ha.
To supply the increasing rice demand for the world growing population, mechanization is one of the remarkable factors. The rice productivity is influenced by the level of mechanization by improvement in yield (by proper and timely seed bed preparation, efficient control of weeds) and reduction losses (by efficient harvesting, threshing and post-harvest process).
To achieve the goal of improving farm mechanization in rice production in Central and West of Asia region, the one-week Rice Mechanization Course is being held by Central and West Asian Rice Center (CWARice) based on educational section of approved 5-year program of CWARice (2018-2022) on July 10-15, 2018, Rasht, Iran. This course will be conducted in coordination with Higher Scientific and Applied Education Institute of Jihad-e- Agricultural, Guilan Agricultural and Natural Resources Research and Education Center and Rice Research Institute of Iran(RRII) for participates from Azerbaijan, I.R. Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey.
What is this course?
The course aimes to acquaint the participants with the updates on the mechanization of rice production. Moreover, presenting different mechanized systems in rice production will be followed.
What are the goals of this workshop?
- Understanding on the importance of mechanization in rice production.
- Acquaintance with:
1) Mechanized rice production operations.
2) Different farm machinery and equipment in rice production.
3) Application of machinery in the mechanization of rice production.
- Some economical assessment related to rice machinery.
