Nursery preparation
Prior to transplanting, seedlings need to be raised in a nursery. Seedling nurseries usually use 5−10% of the total farming area.
When choosing the appropriate nursing system, the availability of sunlight, water, labor, land, and agricultural implements should be considered.
We used dry-bed method for this project.
- First, we prepared the beds with a one meter width and a variable length according to cultivation area of project.
- Then the seeds were spread in completely empty and leveled soil.
- Moisture stress was prevented by irrigation.
- Seedlings transplanted at 15−21 days old.
Seedlings raised in a dry-bed are short, strong, and has a longer root system than those raised in wet-beds.
